Who will benefit?

As a community business we will work together with our members to decide our priorities and activities. Our primary role is to be an outdoor education centre with an emphasis on nature connection and ‘ecoliteracy’. With the experience and skills we have in the team we can offer learning experiences in nature to the full range of age groups and backgrounds, including to senior leadership teams.

Our community aim is to build the capability for us to understand how nature actually works, and through this to better understand the unique role each of us has to enable both human and more-than-human life to thrive alongside one another. What you will learn at the Wilderness will not only encourage more life to thrive here, but bring more life to the wider Forest of Dean too. We are intimately interconnected to this wider ‘whole’.

Here is a sample of the wide range of groups from the Forest of Dean - and Gloucestershire - who have already benefitted from our work.

·      Schools (both primary and secondary)

·      Green Businesses

·      Youth groups

·      Apprentice programmes

·      Company teams, including leadership teams

·      Arts and crafts

·      Food growers and suppliers

·      Charities

·      Special needs groups

·      Families and friends

The Wilderness Centre already hosts many organisations - totalling around 3000 people annually, from the Forest of Dean and wider Gloucestershire, providing important services, activities and opportunities for the community.

Wylderne will provide growth and generative opportunities for the community, develop skills and wellbeing for young people, preserve natural spaces and community access, and offer long-term stability for the community.
